DEPARTMENT OF STATE
The U.S. Department of State (DOS) handles international relations through American embassies and consulates around the world. It corresponds to the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and is based in Washington. This department played a role in the creation ofESTA USA.
WHAT DOES THE DEPARTMENT OF STATE DO?
The U.S. State Department employs some 50,000 people, working in particular on American diplomacy and security. It is therefore a major federal executive structure, looking after embassies, consulates (over 290) and American citizens abroad in some 190 countries.
Among the various branches of the Department of State is the Diplomatic Security Service (DSS), which helped set up ESTA and the Visa Waiver Program (VWP). Indeed, the DSS collaborated with the US DHS – Department of Homeland Security – to create a simpler traveler acceptance process without reducing the country’s security. This process led to the creation of a program that is well known today, enabling nationals of 38 countries to travel to the USA with a simple ESTA authorization. This simplifies the management of visa applications, while satisfying many tourists who can stay up to 90 days on American soil by filling in an ESTA form online.
ANTICIPATE YOUR TRIP TO THE USA BY OBTAINING YOUR ESTA
Of the 38 countries listed above, France is one of them, so you can benefit from a rapid process when traveling to the USA. All you need is 72 hours’ notice to complete the form and obtain the precious ESTA authorization, which is mandatory for all entry into the country.
